Addictive, smart, and just plain joyous iOS puzzler Cut the Rope has already sold a million downloads in just ten days of being on sale.

Cut the Rope’s popularity has skyrocketed throughout recent days as fans eagerly share with others how addictive and fun the gameplay is on iOS devices,” explains Chris Byatte, Director of Chillingo.

The game, which has you carefully dropping a dangling bonbon into a monster’s toothy gob by slicing ropes and avoiding prickly obstacles, is 59p / 99c / €0.79c on iPhone and iPod touch, and £1.19 / $1.99 / €1.59 on iPad. There are free trial versions on both platforms, if you’re still on the fence.

Chillingo claims that it has been the fastest selling game on the App Store. Angry Birds, the publisher’s last big-hit which has racked up more than six million paid sales on iPhone alone, had far humbler beginnings before hitting its stride and becoming one of the App Store's biggest success stories.

The publisher is now working with developer ZeptoLab on updates to the game. The menu has a tantalising “Coming Soon” notice after the first four worlds, so new levels are sure to be high on the agenda.
