Walls may be as basic as bread, but they're just as essential a part of your balanced CoC defensive diet.

They protect your Resources, as well as buy your defensive units time to inflict maximum damage on anyone foolish enough to come raiding your way.

Defensive tactics

Build your layout without leaving gaps in your Wall structures. Remember that buildings and obstacles (trees, shrubs, Decorations, etc) will not count towards sealing your Wall - enemies will be able to march straight through.

Section off areas of your village by building internal Walls, which both protects your Resources / Defenses and slows down the enemy's progress. Given the limited number of Wall structures available to you, it is unusual to be able to surround every unit on your map - particularly if you build secondary - internal Walls.

In these cases, focus on the key elements to keep within your village: Town Hall, Gold/Elixir storage, and your Defenses, of course. But be also aware that enemy units such as Archers can shoot over Walls so plan around this.

Level Hit Points Cost Town Hall Level Required Build Number Allowed
1 300 200 2 25
2 500 1000 2 25
3 700 5000 3 50
4 900 10,000 4 75
5 1400 30,000 5 100
6 2000 75,000 6 125
7 2500 200,000 7 175
8 3000 500,000 8 225
9 4000 1,000,000 9 250
10 5500 3,000,000 9 250
11 7000 4,000,000 10 250

Offensive tactics

A successful raid will almost always require you to deal with Walls quickly. Wall Breakers are more than happy to sacrifice themselves for this purpose, but keep in mind that in mid- to high-level raids they're only really effective in groups (or if sneaking through while, say, a Giant is being used as a meat shield to draw enemy fire). Another advantage of this tactic where more than single-skin Walls have been erected is that Wall Breakers will automatically target the next Wall once the first has been destroyed.

Generally, look for lower level Walls to attack first (if applicable), or for areas where you're likely to undertake the least amount of punishment from enemy fire. Of course, air units can obviously fly past Walls without being affected by them, while Archers can shoot over them - so use this to your advantage.
