Legendary RPG behemoth Square Enix has finally hit the iPad with an actual game (a gallery of pretty Final Fantasy 13 pictures doesn't really count), but its not quite the epic sword-wielding adventure you might expect.

Instead, it's a rather manic little Chocobo herding sim, which has you touching and grabbing a whole farm of Final Fantasy's loveable yellow chickeny things.

Using multi-touch, you have to use up to six of your stubby digits to catch the Chocobos moving about the field, and then let go, when the game says "let go." According to the App Store description, that's about it.

You can play with a friend in co-op mode, or against them as you take turns to see who's the best Chocobo wrangler.

Chocobo Panic is available now on iPad for £2.39 / $3.99 / €2.99.
