We haven't written a huge amount about Nokia's SNAP multiplayer mobile games platform, mainly because, well, the games aren't widely available here in the UK yet. However, the technology appears to be picking up steam.

Japanese developer G-Mode is the latest company to sign up for SNAP, with the news that it's working on a multiplayer mobile chess game called Chess a Moment (we're hoping that's a cheesy pun on 'just a moment', but the jury's out).

It's turn-based, and you can play in up to eight live games at once, with a generous 30 hours to make each move. You're also able to review the move histories of your opponent at any time during a game, to try and figure out what they're going to do next.

In addition, the game includes chat features (including a translation facility that enables you text opponents who don't speak your language), as well as presence and rankings tables.

Chess a Moment is due out by Christmas, although we're guessing that refers to the Japanese release.

It sounds really interesting, though, this idea of having 30 hours to make your move, rather than forcing people to play in real-time. Nokia plans to distribute the game on selected handsets elsewhere in the world, so hopefully that includes the UK.

As ever, click 'Track It!' to be alerted whenever we cover the game again.
