Joining the duo combat system in iPhone and iPod touch role-playing game Chaos Rings is the unique gene skill system detailed today by Square Enix.

Assistant producer Hiroaki Iwano explains how gene modification works, describing the benefits of acquiring new skills and upgrading existing ones.

Defeating enemies rewards you with genes, which can be equipped to use special skills. As you utilise genes, the attached skills grow stronger. For example, kill a deer it may drop a gene for the Cocytus attack skill that levels aqua magic damage at an enemy.

Iwano also confirmed that dungeons scale in difficulty according to your party's level. Repeat visits could reward new items if you've gained a couple levels.

"In a difficult dungeon, you will encounter stronger monsters and rare items. Don’t forget to visit and challenge the same dungeon again! You might find a big treasure that way."

Chaos Rings will be available for iPhone and iPod touch soon; publisher Square Enix has yet to announce a release date or price.
