Square Enix reveals original iPhone RPG Chaos Rings
If you like it, better put a ring on it
Square Enix has finally taken the lid off its first original role-playing game for iPhone and iPod touch: Chaos Rings.
From the impressive debut trailer, it's shaping up to be the Final Fantasy of iPhone and iPod touch: stunning 3D graphics, turn-based battles, and an adventure thick with dialogue and cutscenes.
Developed by Wild ARMs creator Media.Vision, the game follows the story of a white-haired young man by the name of Essha (my own Romanised translation, not the final English name).
According to translation work by Andriasang, the back story involves five pairs of warrior compelled to compete in a tournament for which the winner receives eternal life and youth.
Joining Essha is a blonde woman named Myusha. There are other pairs too including a brunette named Mana who competes alongside a brown-haired boy with a major cowlick named Ayuta. Another man, Oga, appears in the trailer too.
Intense battle scenes - which involve small two-character parties - have them squaring off a giant demon decked in black armour, an overgrown orangutan, and a red dragon atop a snowy mountain.
Square Enix has not announced a specific release date for Chaos Rings, insisting that it will be available for iPhone and iPod touch soon.
