First among sequels: Square-Enix teases iPhone RPG Chaos Rings II just days after Omega launch
Japanese giant moves fast with follow-up
On a crowded market like the App Store, publishers are constantly looking to keep their brand names in the public eye.
Even so, the arrival of a teaser trailer for Chaos Rings II – less than a week after the launch of Chaos Rings Omega – comes as something of a surprise.
The 90-second reveal is presented entirely in Japanese, but the footage shown so far will look reasonably familiar to fans of the series, with turn-based battling interspersed with earnest emoting and the occasional shriek of anguish / aggression.
Though we were impressed by the original Chaos Rings, handing it a Pocket Gamer Gold Award, Chaos Rings Omega felt more like an expansion pack than a sequel, earning a still respectable Bronze Award.
Here’s hoping Chaos Rings II offers something a little different, lest it find itself missing out on a medal.
It may be a while until we find out, however. The suite of monthly updates planned for Omega will run until December, which suggests that Chaos Rings II might not arrive until 2012.
In the meantime, you can watch the Japanese-language teaser trailer below.
