Spanish league also on the cards

Championship Manager update will tweak UI and access French and Italian leagues

When it comes to iPhone and iPod touch football manager games, the competition is hotting up. MYFC and Soccer Manager both managed to sneak onto the App Store before Championship Manager 2009 Express, but now the Eidos-published and Dynamo Games-developed title is out, the real game will kick off.

"We're pretty happy with the early feedback," says Brian McNicoll, Dynamo's MD. "There have been some criticisms when it comes to the user interface, but everyone says the gameplay is good so we're happy with that because it would be harder to fix gameplay than tweak the interface."

Those tweaks will arrive in game's first update.

"It's nice to have the opportunity to make updates to games," McNicoll explains. "You get feedback and you can quickly take that onboard and make changes. I think the community appreciates that."

Other features expected to be added to the update include the option to play either the English, Italian or French leagues. All three are contained in the game, but currently you can only access the French language if you pick the French language option and vice versa with Italian. The addition of the Spanish league is also on the to-do list.

As for the rumours about the genesis of the game, McNicolls confirms that it's based on the high end version of the Championship Manager mobile game. "The logic is great, so we didn't see the point of starting again from scratch for that so the main changes were making the controls touch-based," he says.

And with Championship Manager already going down well on the App Store, Dynamo is certain to be doing more titles for iPhone and iPod touch in future. "We're not going to dismiss mobile but it will be more 50:50 going forward in terms of mobile and iPhone," McNicolls reveals.

In other words, watch that App Store space.
