Cross-platform is becoming something of a holy grail in the entertainment industries. Today's consumer is pretty wily, and can avoid targeted promotions like a radar-equipped gazelle, so producers are having to work extra hard to hit all avenues of entertainment and bring in the punters.

Cellufun has joined in the mammoth logistics in promoting the participative online game show, Catch 21, as it attempts to become a cross-platform phenomenon.

The game combines elements of solitaire and blackjack to offer a unique gambling opportunity for the already vast array of casual gamers playing online.

A mobile version of the game has now been released to US pocket gamers in conjunction with the airing of the first TV version. Apparently, all these separate platforms will come together to allow gamers to participate either online, through their mobiles or on the box.

Despite a particularly self-congratulatory press release, details on how this mass media convergence will work are a little sketchy. The news item deals mostly with explaining how great a bunch of different companies are for promoting a TV show on people's mobiles (hardly endearing to the consumer, but there you go) but there's no denying the fascinating potential should this cross-platform experiment work.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
