Get ready to hear a lot of old men talking about the war. Cannon Fodder, one of the best-loved and most innovative real-time strategy games ever is coming to PSP.

Originally a hit over a decade ago on the 16-bit home computers and released last year on mobile, Cannon Fodder pioneered the kind of action meets tactics gameplay that you see in the likes of Command and Conquer and Warcraft, and which has so far been conspicuously absent from Sony's portable.

The PSP's nearest thing, Field Commander, is a (pretty good) turn-based game, whereas Cannon Fodder is all about action, now. And humour: war hadn't been as much fun as Cannon Fodder since Robin Williams was bellowing Good Morning Vietnam.

As well as retaining that sense of fun and beefing up the graphics for the PSP version, the developer, Codemasters, is promising a stack of new features too.

As before, you'll control a range of soldiers in both groups and as individuals, putting them through a wide range of explosive and dangerous foot- and vehicle-based missions.

But this classic RTS gameplay is to receive reinforcements in the shape of new actions such as the ability to call in air strikes and perform radar sweeps, and an overhauled armoury of extra weaponry, such as flamethrowers and sniper rifles.

And as you'd expect from a combat zone in 2006, the battle will be televised, in-game at least. Your performance in the theatre of war will be covered by the game's own 'FTV' station, giving you a more intimate look at its inimitable miniature pugilists.

Finally, the PSP's wireless capabilities will support four-player link play in both deathmatch and co-op scenarios.

Due to arrive in Spring 2007, we can't wait to be hapless grunts on this particular frontline.
