Manomio's C64 emulator for iPhone has been the highlight of many retro gamers' year, but other than the controversial application finally getting its Apple seal of approval, it's the 1.2 update everyone's waiting for.

The developer has just submitted C64 1.2 to the App Store, you'll be delighted to hear, which promises a lot of improvements and the delivery of a lot more classic games.

Firstly, it'll feature left or tight handed controls, which will also boast a few tweaks in terms of their display, sensitivity and modes depending on orientation. But more importantly will be the introduction of in-app purchases, and that means more C64 games.

A new shop tab will be present in iPhone C64 enabling you to go online within the application and pick up some classic 8-bit nostalgia. To get the DLC moving, Manomio is even offering a few free games available through C64 1.2: Bruce Lee, Samurai Warrior and Laser Squad.

The expected release date for the C64 update is a rather poignant Christmas Eve, but you're not allowed to open it until the next morning.

Oh, alright. If you're really good, you can open one C64 game on Christmas Eve.

Spanner Spencer
Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
