Buzz! Quiz World

| Buzz: Quiz World

General knowledge quiz games are generally quite sombre, considered and intellectual affairs - kind of like the TV equivalent of doing a crossword.

What Buzz! did for the genre is give it a more arcadey visage, and this latest addition to the mobile strain maintains that dynamic approach to answering questions beautifully.

We really wanna see those fingers

Aside from the pseudo-glitz and glamour, Buzz! World Quiz keeps the tedium of multiple choice questions at bay with some well structured variations on how you answer.

These different types of quiz game are what keeps the action alive, and they're represented with all the dynamism of the console versions here on the mobile platform.

You have three different types of quiz to choose from: Hot Seat, Point Risk and The Box Game. Essentially, they're all about firing off quick and accurate answers to questions from a choice of different categories, but they work in very different ways.

Hot Seat is your standard Mastermind style of game (though it's got one rather annoying feature requiring you to bank your winnings before the timer runs out), while Point Risk asks you to bet existing points on your own ability to answer a sequence of questions from specific categories.

The Box Game plays much like Deal or No Deal, with correct answers opening a box to reveal your score. The different games complement each other beautifully, so you get a constant cross and change of action that makes the otherwise boring quiz game impressively engaging.

A question of gameplay

A Quickfire mode fills the gap for five minute games, while pass-to-play multiplayer allows up to four contestants to go head to head in all the different rounds.

Visually the game really pops, with all the flash effects, outrageous characters and TV studio feel that the console versions of Buzz! have always enjoyed.

This isn't to say that Buzz! World Quiz is the quiz game that's going to convert disapprovers of the general knowledge genre, but fans of the series (or indeed anyone who likes a good pub quiz) will find this to be the multiple choice companion that stays on their phone for a long time.

Buzz! Quiz World

A lot of great questions across many categories, accessed through some unique and entertaining variations on the quiz show theme. Ultimately it's still a multiple choice quiz game, but Buzz: Quiz World is easily the best of its class

Spanner Spencer
Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
