Backflip Studios, creator of Ragdoll Blaster and Paper Toss, has released its latest game: a free arcade-inspired time waster named Buganoids.

The game has you bouncing from planet to planet, eliminating nasty alien creatures intent on chomping on you. You fight back with all manner of firepower, including flame-throwers and homing missiles.

It’s a throwback to the arcade games of the '80s, complete with chunky pixel graphics and bleep-bloop synthesized sound effects. Its retro-style doesn’t stop it from having OpenFeint leaderboards, high-res graphics, and multitasking, though.

Buganoids is available to download right now, for free, on iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.

The developer is keen to reveal a few titbits of news about its other games. iPad fans look out - Backflip Studios is making a bunch of its most popular games available in HD versions for the tablet.

Ninjump HD comes out September 23rd, Paper Toss: World Tour HD is out September 30th, and Ragdoll Blaster 2 HD releases on October 14th. That last one has 30 levels exclusive to the iPad.

Finally, slipped in at the end of the press release, the studio is working in tandem with MGM studios to create an iDevice game based on the cult classic movie series, Army of Darkness. That game will arrive in early 2011.
