Bold and bright they are, too

First Boulder Dash - Rocks! PSP screenshots roll out

Publisher 10tacle Studios has been teasing us with snippets of information with regards to the graphical overhaul of its forthcoming update of the classic Boulder Dash franchise for a while, so it's finally good to see something.

And from the two screenshots it's released, it seems the wait hasn't been in vain. Clearly we don't yet know how it plays (although the publisher is adamant the feel remains identical to the original Boulder Dash), but it looks glorious, with bold and vibrant cartoon-inspired visuals.

The essence of the level design, which is being co-developed with Tuna Technologies, certainly seems faithful to the series, with screens detailing the precious diamonds needing collecting, as well as traps and falling objects to avoid, and locked doors requiring a key in order to open.

No substantial new details accompanied the shots, although the number of modes we can expect have again been confirmed. So aside from the classic single-player option and the multiplayer alternative previously disclosed, we know another three modes are offered. Of this trio, two are entirely new to the Boulder Dash universe, while the third has been custom designed for both DS and PSP.

The PSP version of Boulder Dash Rocks! is expected in early 2008.
