Overnight it was announced that Wizards of the Coast and Netmarble are banding together to bring a new Magic: The Gathering game to mobile, code-named 'Project M'.

There's not a ton of information released in this early stage, but WotC and Netmarble will be working closely together on design and creature animations to give Project M a new look that the Magic: The Gathering multiverse has yet to see.

"Project M players will get to choose their Planeswalker, modify their deck of creatures and spells, and show off their creativity and strategy as they battle across the planes of the MTG Multiverse. Each creature & Planeswalker will be fully animated as they race across the battlefield to defeat their opponent."

That's all there is to know about the game thus far, but it's an interesting partnership that could result in WotC bringing more of their games to mobile in newer, more exciting ways.

Of course, not everyone is happy to hear about it especially after VentureBeat released a quick preview of the game on their YouTube channel (above). Evidently fans of the game aren't too pleased at the idea of it being turned into a potentially free-to-play MOBA, and after Netmarble's Loot Box controversy it's understandable.

It could turn out great though, and I hope it does. We'll just have to wait and see what comes of it.
