Fornite Monopoly is on the way, but we're not sure how to feel about it
An interesting concept at least
We've covered Fortnite in all manners and while it's still a riotous success on console, PC, and mobile, people (probably) complain about kids today not experiencing the joys of board games. Er, well, Epic and Habro have a solution to that... and it's coming to retail on October 1st.
Yep, you've probably heard it by now, but Fortnite's getting a Monopoly makeover. Rather than buying out other investors and putting up hotels in Lucky Landing, the rules are having a bit of a tweak too.Thrilled to show you the final art and game board for Fortnite Monopoly! It’s so so fun and such a unique spin on the classic game mashed up with last player standing Fortnite. In stores Oct 1st!!! pic.twitter.com/aNqJmvfpb2 — Donald Mustard (@DonaldMustard) September 6, 2018
According to IGN, the board game will feature a "battle-building twist to the iconic fast-dealing property trading game." They'll also be replacing money with health points, changing up what the dice represent, and including the ever-chasing storm.
Of course, it misses out on some of that classic Monopoly charm, such as the little metal counters and fat stack of cash. As weird as the concept sounds I'm genuinely interested in finding out more about it.
Growing up, Monopoly was always a risky one to pull out at family events because there's always a breaking point for someone, but Fortnite? People reach breaking point the moment they land.
I'll be interested to know whether this is a well-thought-out concept, or something that's just been whipped together too quickly to work as a cohesive gaming experience.
