Pocket Gamer's board game retrospective - BattleLore: Command

If you're a fan of American board games then there's a pretty good chance you've heard of Fantasy Flight Games. It's one of the biggest publishers of what are sometimes called Ameritrash games.

Where European games are usually strategic and deep, Ameritrash games usually focus more on luck and the rattle of dice. And super cool miniatures.

What you might not know is that one of Fantasy Flight's most famous franchises, BattleLore, is available on iOS and Android. And it has been for a while. It's called BattleLore: Command, and it's pretty damn good.

The game is all about fighting battles, be they against the AI, or against other players. It's a hex-based scrap to the death with a really interesting campaign mode and a lot more going on besides.

You can play with friends online, connect over the same wireless network for scraps that way, or take the pass and play option. And all of that has been added since we gave the game an 8/10 many moons ago.

In short this is basically all you need to play the Second Edition of BattleLore without having to find some space on the table or actually speak to anyone in real life.

It's super slick, it still looks pretty good, and while it's not the cheapest game on the App Store, for just £6.99 / $6.99 you're getting a complete board game in your pocket. Now what's not to like about that?
