While the full version of Blue Skies is still only available as Version 1, the 'Lite' demo has now gone live on the App Store to showcase what we can expect from Version 2.

The game uses the accelerometer to pilot a helicopter around an invasion site in good old-fashioned 2D scrolling shoot-'em-up style. The updated version is currently going through Apple's approval mangle, but is expected any day now. The first outing of Blue Skies received some on-the-fly updates, according to the App Store's reader reviews, while Version 2 promises, among others, the following improvements:

  • Rain / cloud effects
  • Speed booster
  • Bug fixes, including sound bug with Firmware 2.1
  • Difficulty levels
  • Unlimited Arcade mode levels

Check out the screenshots above to see some of the changes in action, then go grab the demo to whet your appetite. Hit the 'Track It!' button to stay on top of Blue Skies news as it lands on the Pocket Gamer helipad.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
