Ninja Kiwi releases balloon shoot 'em up Bloons Super Monkey for iPhone and iPad
Universal popper
With two of its Bloons games already very successfully released on the App Store, New Zealand developer Ninja Kiwi continues to pile on the balloon popping pleasure.
Its latest conversion from a Flash games has been developed internally though - Bloons and Bloons TD were ported by Dundee outfit Digital Goldfish.
Get the pointAs you'd expect, Bloons Super Monkey revolves around a monkey who throws darts at balloons.
This time, the mechanic is combined with 1941-style gameplay to create a shoot 'em up.
It's nothing like the bullet hell that developers such as Cave have been inflicting on iPhone with games such as DoDonPachi Resurrection though.
Bloons Super Monkey feels more like My First Shoot 'Em Up as your aim is to pop as many balloons as possible. There's no enemy fire to dodge. Instead, you have to pop a certain number of balloons to progress to the next level.
More bang for your buckYour performance on each level is rewarded with points that enable you to upgrade your offensive capabilities with multiple firing darts, lasers, boomerangs, missiles and plasma fire.
As ever, the game boils down to pattern recognition as you have to work out where and when to position your Super Monkey onscreen in order to ensure his automatic firepower pops the highest number of balloons.
Simple fun then, and something that's now available in a universal app for iPhone and iPad priced $2,99, €2.39 or £1,79, although Ninja Kiwi has been running weekend promotions that drop the price to 99c, €0.79, or 59p.
