It would be hard to argue that we need any more falling block games, let alone any more colour-match games.

Still, Block Cascade Fusion - a combination of the two with a bit of Lumines thrown in for good luck - looks like it might have created something new from the mash-up.

Developed by Finnish outfit Gamelion, in it you have to create a line of at least five similarly coloured blocks by rotating and arranging the falling items.

They won't disappear right away however. Instead they turn into linked blocks of a single colour, until the time ends and the fusion starts and a line drops from the top of the screen, erasing them all in a shower of particle effects.

Points are awarded according to the size and number of blocks that are cleared from the screen during the fusion, and your goal is to get as high a score as possible. There are also multiple trophies in five different categories to unlock.

And, as you'd expect in such a game, rave, dance, trance and electro soundtracks will help keep your pulse racing.

You can get an idea about how it all works in the following video.
