RIM announces two more BlackBerry Playbook models: LTE and HSPA+

At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, BlackBerry creator RIM has announced that its upcoming PlayBook tablet will be joined by two more 4G-focused versions.

Originally, there was the traditional 3G and wi-fi Playbook, and a 4G edition that used WiMax. Now, the company has shown off a version that supports LTE, and one that covers the HSPA+ network. Both devices will be available during the “second half of 2011”.

That covers pretty much all bases in the US, and allows the PlayBook to get online through all major 4G networks. Not so handy for those of us living in the UK, who are lagging far behind on the 4G uptake.

The tablets also support Bluetooth tethering, mobile hotspots, and BlackBerry Bridge, which lets you hook up your BlackBerry smartphone to the PlayBook for easy content and contacts transfer.

The company also used the opportunity to announce that the BlackBerry App World is now available in another 27 markets, bringing to total to 101 countries.

The App World market will be getting a new feature soon that will allow subscribers to instantly gift airtime, apps, and other carrier services from one subscriber to another using BBM.
