Games dominating BlackBerry App World at launch
|

Having just installed the BlackBerry App World client on our Curve 8310, we've been digging into what games are available on Research In Motion's app store here in the UK.

There are 225 games available on the store, compared to 299 apps in all the other categories combined. Productivity & Utilities is the second largest category with 91 apps, followed by Reference & eBooks with 59 apps.

The games section offers five sub-categories: Arcade & Action (93 titles), Card & Casino (43), Puzzles & Mind Teasers (35), Sports (28), and Strategy & Board (26).

There seem to be two main price points for games: $4.99 and $9.99 - yes, the prices are in dollars even though we downloaded the App World client from the UK.

We just checked with RIM, and apparently the prices will change to the Queen's Sterling after you make a purchase using PayPal.

It's the Gameloft and Glu show at launch, with both publishers offering a wide selection of games taken from their recent mobile releases.

However, Digital Chocolate, IG Fun, Gamevil, Hands-On Mobile, HandyGames and RealArcade are other familiar names, along with Magmic and Handmark from the smartphone gaming world.

We can't find any EA Mobile titles, strangely.

Anyway, we'll have more detailed impressions, a pick of the gaming highlights, and a guide to how it all works as the day goes on. Stand by!
