BioWare thinking about Mass Effect for DS
As well as Jade Empire, Dragon Age and friends
Remember not so long ago BioWare made some noise about looking at PSP (and iPhone) development as part of its future operation?
Well, Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood lead designer Miles Holmes has revealed the developer is also considering bringing versions of Mass Effect, Jade Empire and Dragon Age, as well as others, to DS. "Basically anything that reinforces the franchises," Holmes told Eurogamer.de.
"We have a lot of big plans for Mass Effect. Having a DS version would be an awesome way to keep interest alive and keep it going in addition to [Mass Effect 2]."
How do you get such massive RPGs on the tiny DS Lite? Well, you obviously tweak the concept considerably. But it is interesting Holmes doesn't mention PSP, potentially a better home for this kind of thing.
At the Develop Conference last week, some industry types we spoke to suggested publishers are rapidly abandoning the DS given the difficulty in standing out from the crowd and making any money out of released games. With a worldwide userbase in the 35-40 million, PSP is hardly an insignificant proposition. And yet it continues to be largely ignored by the industry.
Anyway, Mass Effect on DS. Yes, could be good, if different from the 360 and PC versions. Clearly.
