Scottish developer Denki raised some eyebrows when designer Gary Penn described its iPhone game Big Cup Cricket as the best cricket game ever.

Technically, what he actually said was; "Big Cup Cricket is as good as it gets – on any platform."

Well, presumably he's even more strident in his views now that the company has updated both that game and the more recently released Big Hit Baseball with a real-time multiplayer mode.

Curve ball

"It's the first time Denki's done multiplayer on iOS, and we're really pleased with the results," said MD Colin Anderson.

"It feels great playing real people - except when the match-making accidentally pairs me against Sean, of course. Then there's absolutely no fun to be had; it's purely a lesson in pain…"

As for Mr Penn, dare we ask his views about the quality of Big Hit Baseball?

"Hmmm…" he muses. "There's a lot more quality competition in the baseball space than the cricket space. Let's put it this way, it's definitely my favourite baseball game on any platform ever."

Big Hit Baseball is out now, published by Eidos, priced $1.99, €1.59 or £1.19, which is exactly the same price as Big Cup Cricket.
