Denki claims its new iPhone title is the best cricket game ever released

It might not seem surprising for a developer to puff its own game.

However, to state your latest release is the best example of a certain type of game on any platform ever seems dangerously close to over-ventilating hyperbole.

Not according to the chaps at Scottish outfit Denki Games.

Nailed it

That's the exact word from chief designer, and one time game journalist legend, Gary Penn concerning Big Cup Cricket, the iPhone batting, bowling and fielding game it's just made for Square Enix.

"I've not played a better cricket game – and I've played a lot," states Gary on the company's blog, in conversation with CEO Colin Anderson.

"I played a lot when I was reviewing as a journalist, and I certainly played a lot more recently when I started the design for this project, so I've played pretty much everything that's out there for reference. Big Cup Cricket is as good as it gets - on any platform."

Reverse sweep

"Really Gaz? Really really? The best cricket game you've played on any platform? Ever?" queries Anderson.

"Yep, it's not hyperbole, it's just a fact," he clarifies dismissively.

With the caveat that it's an arcade cricket game not a simulation, the reason is Penn reckons the game successfully dramatises cricket so it's accessible to non-fans while also ensuring it's authentic enough for cricket fans to enjoy.

You can read the full exchange on Denki's blog, while checking out the game - priced $2.99, €2.39 or £1.79 - via the App Store button below.
