Bejeweled 2 is a great game no matter what platform it appears on, and never fails to get out thumbs flitting across a keypad at light speed (Mr Sulu). But there's also no denying that the iPhone release didn't do much to enhance the concept; it simply provided a great, but typical conversion for Apple's handset.

Well, it seems the guys at PopCap has been paying attention to its gamers' needs, and has responded with a free update based on user feedback. The new features include:

  • Endless Mode: A popular game mode from PopCap's Mac/PC version that allows gamers to enjoy limitless gameplay without ever hitting 'No More Moves'.
  • High Scores: A feature that allows players to retain their high scores for both Action and Classic mode. It also tracks the user rank and lifetime stats, including best lifetime score, overall number of gems collected, overall time played, and more.
  • Music System: An option that enables players to listen to iPod music during gameplay. Controlled from the settings menu, players can choose to activate game sound effects, or turn them off.
  • Battery and Clock Info Bar: An option that displays battery life data and time when the game is paused from the options or pause menu.

Plug in now to get your jewels tweaked.

Spanner Spencer
Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
