Free Blitz update for Bejeweled 2 hits iPhone

Bejeweled 2, the massively popular puzzler from developer PopCap games, has just received the update treatment.
The Bejeweled 2 'Blitz' update essentially allows you to play against friends anywhere, anytime, much like the Facebook offering that was released earlier this year.
"Ultimately, social gaming is about being able to play games with and against your friends, and the new Blitz update for Bejeweled 2 on iPhone lets you play against your friends" explained John Vechey, co-founder and director of PopCap's social gaming initiative.
Aside from the multiplayer enhancement, the Blitz upgrade also includes bonus multipliers, laser gems, star medals, realtime gem swapping and score posting on your friends' and shared leaderboards - all additions that the Facebook Blitz version had. You can also see which of your friends are playing Bejeweled 2 if you so desire.
It sounds like a neat addition, and as many already take advantage of Facebook on their iPhone it makes sense to link apps with it in this way. Could this be the trend for other developers?
