Right now, thousands of lobster-red English football fans are sitting in German bierhalls warming up for the World Cup in the traditional way – drinking seven times their own bodyweight in booze. Good for them.

If you're stuck back here in England, you'll soon be able to join in the fun virtually. No, not by dashing to the nearest Yates' Wine Bar and getting stuck into the Stella. By buying a mobile game, silly.

Beershooter is the work of German publisher HandyGames, and puts you in the boots of a suspiciously Schwarzenegger-like barman named, erm, Arni.

Anyway, Arni is equipped with a beer-blaster device to fire booze into the mouths of his thirsty customers. Which sounds to us like a good recipe for a one-thumb game (leaving your other hand free to clutch a giant beer stein).

The game's due out next week, and apparently features 'original sound effects in the Bavarian beer garden style', which sounds marvellous.
