Evolving from guitar and bass play in Guitar Hero: On Tour, Activision has revealed a four-instrument gameplay for Band Hero.

The DS Lite exclusive brings new vocal and drums tracks to the stage, complete with a new peripheral for whacking your DS playing the drums.

Called the Drum Grip, the peripheral slips over the bottom half of your DS Lite and covers the directional pad and face buttons. Two pads on each side act as drum heads that are tapped as notes stream down the top screen.

The familiar Guitar Grip returns, this time emblazoned with a Band Hero logo. Since the peripheral requires access to a Game Boy Advance cartridge slot, the game can only be played on a DS Lite.

It isn't clear if you can play the game on a DSi using the Drum Grip or vocal tracks, which leverage the embedded microphone.

Along with the new peripheral, the game will offer 30 master recordings with a contemporary slant. Blink-182, Avril Lavigne, The Killers, Fall Out Boy, and KT Turnstall are being touted as posting tunes to the soundtrack.

A new No Fail mode is being added as well, ensure the less musically inclined among us can jam without the risk of being booed off the stage.

No confirmed release date for Band Hero, although it would seem likely to coincide with the November release of the console versions.
