Acquiring a child is a constant problem for people with no friends or general sexual appeal, but thanks to Deep Silver and the Nintendo DS, there's now another solution that doesn't involve attracting a member of the opposite sex: Baby Life.

Following on from Game Life's Horse Life simulator, gamers are now invited to blend up their own concoction of virtual genetic material to (pro)create their very own, completely unique techno-baby. With more than three million creative possibilities, each baby will apparently be both physically and mentally unique.

"We are confident that Baby Life will astonish the market by its quality and high playability, our target is to deliver real fun with the most lovely hero you can have in a videogame: a baby," says Emmanuel Drouin, managing director of Game Life.

Scheduled for release this winter, you'd better get painting that spare room in a neutral colour and break out the knitting needles to whip up some miniature cardies and bootees.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
