Quad-core Asus Transformer Prime launching in November
PC in disguise
It's only been a few months since Asus launched the Eee Pad Transformer tablet-cum-notebook, but the company is already gearing up to release a successor - the Transformer Prime - on November 9th.
Speaking at Asia D in October, Asus confirmed the rumours that the Transformer Prime will feature a quad-core Tegra 3 chip, a 10.1-inch screen and a battery life of 14.5-hours.
Unless another manufacturer beats them to the punch, this would make the machine the first Tegra 3 (Kal El) device on the market.
Window on a new worldAs well as discussing his company's upcoming hardware, Jerry Shen, CEO of Asus, shared his belief that Windows 8 - not Android - will eventually eclipse Apple’s iOS to become the dominant tablet platform.
According to Shen, "familiarity" with previous Windows products, combined with Windows 8’s faster performance, will lead consumers to abandon their iPads in favour of tablets sporting Microsoft’s upcoming OS.
Existing Android-powered Asus tablets are expected to receive an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) sometime in December.
