Peripheral manufacturer Datel has just revealed an accessory for the PS Vita that adds DualShock-style grips to Sony's newest handheld.

Available in Japan for ¥1,380, the Assist Grip gives users two chunky paddles to hang on to while they take advantage of the Vita's multiple control options.

While large-handed Vita owners might benefit from the extra purchase, the low placement of the grips may actually make it more difficult for the average gamer to reach the console's face buttons.

In the product shot (posted above) for the Assist Grip, you can also see that the accessory obscures some of the Vita's rear touch panel - something that could have a negative impact on games that utilise that particular input method.

Still, provided you don't mind the extra bulk and have a decent hand span, the Assist Grip seems to offer a workable solution for Vita owners who crave the feel of a DualShock.
