Assassin's Creed confirmed for DS
Release date sneaks onto US schedules
Ubisoft has so far only confirmed the game is coming to PS3, Xbox 360 and PC platforms (with a mobile version coming through Gameloft), but today Assassin's Creed showed up on an official DS release schedule from Nintendo.
It's been rumoured before a DS game could be in development – back in June it showed up on some retailer websites – but this is the official thumbs up we've been waiting for.
The list has the game chalked up for a February 2008 US release (it appears on the schedule right after two other slightly less exciting Ubisoft games due out in February: Figure Skater and Wild Petz Tigerz).
Plenty of hype has surrounded Assassin's Creed on the home consoles. Players take control of character Altair, a rookie assassin tasked with finding and killing nine historical figures accused of propogating the Crusades.
The game's most interesting feature is 'social stealth', where players can carry out kills in front of hundreds of other characters, then try to merge into a crowd to make an escape.
There have also been rumours missions won't all take place during the Third Crusade, as originally thought, and actually involve some travelling through different time periods.
Exactly how the DS version of the game will look or play is yet to be revealed. It's certainly an ambitious game to bring the platform so there are bound to be alterations regarding both.
