Careful where you play it

3GS-only augmented reality shooter Arcade Reality hits the iPhone

The imminent arrival of Chillingo’s Arcade Reality came to our attention just over a week ago, around about the time I was on holiday damaging myself with a surfboard. Now, it’s here.

Arcade Reality is an augmented reality game, which means that it superimposes game elements - in this case, aliens - onto the real world, as presented to you on the screen of your iPhone 3GS by means of the camera on the other side.

It boasts several game modes, including Arcade Reality, Infinite, and Asteroid Attack, and there are boss characters with special moves. “Non-stop fun and activity is guaranteed in Arcade Reality,” promises Johnny Coghlan, head of publishing for Chillingo.

Activity is the best.

I don’t have a 3GS so I can’t tell you what it’s like, but if it entails the degree of odd movement it looks like it entails I can earnestly advise you to play it indoors, or at least in a place where you won’t be seen. Otherwise, the on-screen alien-blasting action will be augmented by concerned onlookers and burly healthcare professionals.

We’ll have a review for you soon. If you feel like checking it out in the meantime, it costs $2.99/£1.79. Click ‘Buy It!’ to visit the App Store.
