Aralon: Sword and Shadow to level up iPhone RPGs

At the time, Crescent Moon's Ravensword: The Fallen King was tagged - probably by me - as Oblivion for the iPhone.

A solid game, nevertheless, it didn't quite meet those heights, but that doesn't mean such lofty ideals aren't to be aimed for, or reached.

Which brings us to Aralon: Sword and Shadow, a collaboration between Crescent Moon, debut developer Galoobeth Games, and artist Mark Jones, who did indeed work on Elder Scrolls games such as Morrowind and Oblivion.

All in the experience

The thirdperson RPG has been in development - off and on - since late 2009, gaining ambition as time has rolled on.

Thirty hours of gameplay are promised, which you can grind through via four character classes - warrior, ranger, rogue, and mage - each of which has its own skill tree. There are three playable races - humans, elves and trolls.

There is - of course - a main quest, supported by optional side quests. Making these fun and interesting will be opportunities to bulk out your inventory with swords, axes, bows, staves, shields and armour.

You can also acquire a horse to speed around the world, while other skills include herb gathering, potion craft, and lockpicking.

Aralon: Sword and Shadow will be first released for iPhone and iPod touch (including iPhone 4 optimised graphics), followed by iPad, both during autumn/fall.
