We remember a time when games were firmly devoid of any morals and completely agenda free. Well, actually, most of them still are . How else would you explain Manhunt 2? Some even contain disturbing nudity – hang your (supported) head in shame, Baby Pals (assuming you take the same absurd view as one reviewer from a prominent online site has).

But in recent years quite a few games have materialised heralding some sort of informational, responsible message. Such as upcoming DS game Ecolis: Save the Forest and mobile game My Happy Planet.

It's obviously nice to know not all game developers are obsessed with making games about shooting Nazis in the face. And, likewise, that us consumers might actually buy something with a slightly less violent message.

Which is something Portuguese games developer and publisher Gameinvest will be hoping we do when it releases its just-announced new game Aquatic Tales.

The game promises to deliver a message just as important as one about hugging trees but more ocean-based – not entirely surprising given the country of origin is essentially one long coastline.

In the game players will be sunk into a 25-level adventure in which they're guiding and protecting a family of endangered fish to safety. Ocean preservation and conservation messages are conveyed throughout, although you'll be glad to hear it's not all lectures on the dangers of fishing nets and trashing coral reefs.

Instead, the game should be enjoyable for any young player. It's designed to turn the DS screen into a brightly coloured living aquarium and Gameinvest promises an original musical score so catchy it'll "have the whole family playing and singing together."

If that sounds like something you want to get your family doing (personally I can't think of anything that would disturb me more) then you'll be glad to hear Aquatic Tales will be released very shortly. It's due out on DS (as well as Wii and PC) worldwide this summer.
