During Apple's Q4 2011 financial announcement yesterday, the Cupertino giant revealed that it sold a whopping 17.07 million iPhones in the three-month period ending September 24th, 2011.

The iPad, meanwhile, maintained its strong market performance, with The Big A shifting a company record 11.12 million tablets in the quarter.

Apple also shipped 6.62 million iPods between the start of July and the end of September, over half of which were iPod touchs.

Cashing in

"We are thrilled with the very strong finish of an outstanding fiscal 2011, growing annual revenue to $108 billion and growing earnings to $26 billion," Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, said.

"Customer response to iPhone 4S has been fantastic, we have strong momentum going into the holiday season, and we remain really enthusiastic about our product pipeline."

All told, Apple sold 72.3 million iPhones and 32.4 million iPads in the entire 2011 fiscal year.

You can listen to Apple's financial results conference call for yourself here, if you're really, really into that kind of thing. It'll be available for the next two weeks.
