Exit the Gungeon is the latest installment of the fast-paced Gungeon series and it's out now on the Apple Arcade. It has an awesome arcade game aesthetic to it and is chock full of action.

You're in the "Gungeon" and your goal is to, well, exit it. You'll need to climb out by going nowhere but straight up. You can choose between some different characters to suit your style. There are no attributes or anything so it's really just a preference as to who you want to choose.

You'll need to go through waves of enemies and that includes bosses too. You start with only three hearts that represent your health, and they drain down very rapidly if you're clumsy. Although the game can come at you quickly, there are some things to remember that you can use to your advantage.

Your guns shoot automatically

OK, this one is more of a mental note than anything, as I'm sure you've learned you can do this from playing the tutorial. However, if you haven't even started then the game, then behold, friend. It's a sensory kind of game when it comes to firing guns. This really comes in handy, especially when there are enemies coming from all over the place.

If you're near an enemy, you will start blasting autonomously, making mincemeat of foes. It's really a beautiful light show once you get in a zone destroying enemies with your weapons. You start to feel pretty unstoppable. And since you don't have to worry about pulling the trigger, all you need to do is focus on evasion (which we'll cover).

You'll see how easy it to rack up on the kills. Just pay attention to your health, because it'll drain faster than you think if you're careless. But take advantage of this chaotically great feature.

Dodge roll a lot (and we mean a lot)

Your ability to evade attacks is just as critical in Exit the Gungeon as shooting. Bullets come at you fast, especially when multiple enemies are shooting at once. There are normally some platforms for you to hop on to evade attacks. Just try and switch off as foes continue to spawn.

Another immensely important thing to keep in mind is that dodge rolling will cause you to avoid bullets, as you'll go right through them. Essentially, you're unkillable when jumping. Because of this, just keep on jumping. Remember, you don't need to manually shoot.

Just hop like a wild bunny and let your gun take care of business. You will still get hit, but if your timing is great, then you shouldn't take much early on. Play your cards right and you should still have a nice chunk of health left when you advance.

Grab all of the drops

Many items will be dropping after you destroy enemies. It could be health replenishers, defensive items, or some new weapons. Snatch up everything. And actually, you'll probably automatically do this since you'll be jumping and running around so much. You'll do this without thinking.

But, if you've completed an area, then make sure to pick up any leftover stuff if your inventory isn't full. It'll really help you to go into the next area with a fresh slate. It's a non-stop climb, so never settle with what you have.

You never know when you have to take on a boss, so be prepared for that next wave, always. Sometimes a weapon drops before you advance, so you'll have a head start when blasting away.

Use Halls of Knowledge

The Halls of Knowledge may sound familiar to you because it's where you did the tutorial. In many games, you go through a tutorial once, and there's no practice mode. The cool thing about Exit the Gungeon is that you can come back to the Halls at any time and work on your craft.

It's some free roam practice where you can take on enemies. Practice your sense of direction when shooting or work on your dodging skills. There's a nifty little machine where foes will continue to spawn so you can blast them freely.

Practice makes perfect as the old saying goes, so make good use of the location. You won't be met with the waves of baddies that you see in the real levels, but it's still something that should help you on your journey. So, if you're feeling unready, then head on in to the Hall of Knowledge and master your art.
