There's no denying that Angry Birds is big business. The franchise has smashed sales records, inspired a boardgame, and landed a deal with 21st Century Fox with its forthcoming title Angry Birds Rio.

It's nice to see that all this success hasn't gone to the head of developer Rovio's 'Mighty Eagle' Peter Vesterbacka.

When it was suggested to him in a recent interview with Wired that Angry Birds could rival gaming icons like Pac-Man, Vesterbacka had this to say:

“What we’re doing is building out the Angry Birds world. Pac-Man is only game. Mario is a better benchmark.”

Bold words indeed. But is he right to have Nintendo's mascot in the sights of his giant catapult, or just plumb crazy?

Let us know what you think.
