As one of the consistently highest selling and grossing iPhone games of 2010, it’s fairly safe to say that Angry Birds is one of the true break-out hits on the iPhone this year.

Now a second major update has hit the App Store that brings not just new levels and features to the full version of the game, but also a whole host of extra achievements and levels to the lite version.

Angry Birds is a deceptively addictive physics-based game that involves flinging a variety of small birds into towers of blocks in an effort to crush the greedy green pigs lurking below.

The new update adds a bird that can ‘boomerang’ back, new graphical themes, achievements, new ‘episode begins’ and 15 new levels to catapult your way through.

In addition to all that, there are indications that even more updates will be winging their way over to the nest, with two additional level sets marked as ‘coming soon’.

Lite owners on the other hand can expect six new levels as well as achievements unique to the free version, so there’s something there for even owners of the full game to enjoy.

Angry Birds managed to secure a Pocket Gamer Silver Award back in December last year, and is available for the iPhone for 59p / 99c and iPad for £3.49 / $5.99.
