Google pulls PlayStation emulator PSX4Droid from Android Market

Xperia wants to play here, go somewhere else

Product: PSX4Droid | Developer: ZodTTD

ZodTTD’s PlayStation emulator was unceremoniously yanked from the Android Market by Google today in a move the developer suspects is partly down to the launch of Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play 'PlayStation Phone'.

PSX4Droid had been available on the Market for almost half a year before it was removed due to, "content violation."

ZodTTD reveals on Twitter that he has been, "working like mad on a psx4droid update," and that Google’s action effectively spells the end of the program for existing customers of the emulator.

ZodTTD believes the takedown was influenced by Sony. "Sony's Xperia Play must be coming soon," he writes.

Despite this sudden takedown, rival emulator fpse remains up and running on the Android Market.

If Sony has indeed leaned on Google, then it’s possible this app will also disappear in the coming days.

@klouud yeah it should be fine (I've got an iPhone 4 on 4.2.1 jailbroken) go ahead and enjoy, check out iMame4all it's pretty cool, it lets you run some older Mame roms, it's free and pretty awesome, Snes9x EX for SNES games is great too again it's free, runs most games perfectly.

Just noticed that pretty much all of the emulators say "works with 3.x" firmwares. Do any of theme work with 4.x?

ZodTTD is a pretty scummy developer, he basically takes open source software under the GNU General Public License and charges money or infects them with ads, if any of these apps were actually released on the AppStore itself they would be removed in 5 minutes, he did it with VLC player by repackaging it as a piece of garbage on Cydia called "openstreamer" which was ad infected and it took years to actually get an ad free VLC player. He's done this with pretty much every emulator on Cydia too, if anybody wants a free Snes emulator for their iPhone for example, ignore ZotDDs paid for version and the "free" ad infected version, and get the Snes9x from Cydia, it was released not too long ago and it is in keeping with the spirit of the GNU

Actually, it was a GPL violation. The creator of the app based it off of an open source emulator but then would not release his source code. Nothing to do with Sony. That is why other PlayStation emulators are still around.

He could submit it to Amazon and sell it through their new apps market. I doubt they would bend to Sony...

Was this an official app? Having just seen the N64 player on Xperia Play, this could be a classic gamer's delight. http://psp2roundup.blogspot.com/2011/03/xperia-play-launch-round-up.html

Hey ZodTTD, why don't you put some effort into making a v-stick for the GBA emulator on iOS so its actually playable/usable. Then you'd have a lot more business.
