Android phones can control robots

As paradoxical as it might sound, the Android is rapidly becoming the weapon of choice in the race to create an army of humanity-destroying killbots.

Okay, that’s entirely what this news item’s about. But home engineers have been busy at work creating a variety of robots controlled entirely through the G1 and Android software.

These robots have all kinds of functions - the most impressive of which are using the accelerometer for movement and a live, onscreen camera feed over wi-fi.

We’ve got ‘droids with working knife and fork attachments (which looks disturbingly phallic), a robot that wouldn’t look out of place in a warzone and a remote controlled mini airship.

Like most robotic applications, a practical use for these devices is a little tricky to fathom, but their novelty and big-boy-toy value is through the roof.

The tilt controls for movements make these robots into physical versions of the racing games we’ve been seeing on accelerometer equipped smartphones lately, and the live camera feed conjures up all kinds of illicit possibilities for new websites.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
