Ice Cream Sandwich now on 16% of Android handsets
Roughly a quarter of Android users running Gingerbread
Has your Android handset had a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich yet? Probably not, if Google's latest stats are anything to go by.
Over on The Big G's Android Developers website, the firm has posted a table and pie chart (posted below) indicating the current distribution of the Android userbase.
According to Google's latest stats, Android 4.0 - colloquially known as Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) - is now present on 15.9 per cent of all Android devices.
Considering that the next version of the OS, Jelly Bean, is now out, that's really not too great.
Believe it or not, though, this represents a massive improvement in ICS's rollout stats. Just last month, only 10.9 per cent of Android devices were running ICS.
Numbers and figuresHow about the aforementioned Jelly Bean? Well, a mere 0.8 per cent of 'droid devices are currently running Android 4.1, though since it's only been available for less than a month, we'll let it slide. This time.
At any rate, the most widespread iteration of the Android OS by far remains Android 2.3 (a.k.a. Gingerbread), which can be found on a massive 60.6 per cent of Android handsets.
If that seems ridiculously backwards, remember that Android 3.0 is Honeycomb - Google's tablet-only OS. This means that Ice Cream Sandwich is actually the very next rung on the ladder for most of these Android users.
