Google's Ice Cream Sandwich OS is only installed on 2.9% of all Android smartphones and tablets

The latest monthly instalment of Google's Android developer Platform Versions data has been published, and it looks like a mixed bag in terms of news for the Cali-based company.

On the one hand, there's been a slight rise in the number of Android-powered devices running either version 2.3 (Gingerbread) or version 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) of Google's mobile OS.

On the other slightly disappointing hand, though, it looks like Ice Cream Sandwich is only installed on 2.9 per cent of all Android-powered smartphones and tablets, despite Android 4.0 officially launching around five months ago.

Still, a 2.9 per cent share of the installed base is an improvement on the 1.6 per cent share that Ice Cream Sandwich enjoyed last month.

These numbers are based on visits to Google Play over a two-week period that ended on April 2nd.
