The next Android OS will fuse both the Honeycomb and Gingerbread operating systems into one

Revealed at MWC by Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt, the tablet (Honeycomb) and smartphone (Gingerbread) tailored OSs will be merged together to put a stop to Android device fragmentation.

Schmidt added that the new collaboration would "start with an 'I', be named after a dessert." Ice Cream would seem the most obvious guess.

No release date was given, although Schmidt revealed that Google has plans to issue updates to its current operating systems in six-month cycles. This should mean that once Honeycomb is launched this new collaborative OS could be a mere six months away.
