It looks like the gruelling Apple versus Google tech war is entering another stage of battle, as Android handsets will be getting Flash support in the operating system's 2.2 build.

Speaking with The New York Times, Google's vice president for engineering Andy Rubin had a few fighting words for its biggest smartphone competitor, Apple. He said, "it’s just a matter of time” before Android outsells the iPhone, because "Open usually wins.”

Do normal, non-tech-obsessed folk even care if their mobile is 'open'? Rubin thinks so, offering the analogy "I just don’t want to live in North Korea." Ouch.

But outside of the usual executive mud-flinging, Rubin had some words that any Android obsessive has been waiting to hear. The NYT writes: "He also promised that full support for Adobe’s Flash standard was coming in the next version of Android, code-named Froyo."

Who knows which of the current Android handsets will be compatible with 2.2, if any, but never fear 'droid fans, you will be getting your mobile FarmVille on soon enough.
