Android Market grand opening this week?

You want to know the truth? When I first saw the G1 handset, I thought it looked rubbish. But when I actually got my hands on one I was really impressed. Great build quality, sweet screen and incredibly user friendly. If only there were some decent games for it.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the Android Market is due to start selling paid games this week, so this is pretty big news for all those Android users who, like me, love the phone but struggle to find anything good to do with it.

"This week Google will start allowing developers to charge for software sold through the Android Market, according to people familiar with the matter," says the WSJ report.

From our regular discussions with mobile game developers, we suspect there’ll be hundreds of Android games and apps waiting in the wings for the Market to start allowing sales, so an explosion of hot content could finally be on the horizon.

Even if the report turns out to be off the mark, we’re still expecting the launch of paid Google handheld apps to be quite imminent, so get your credit cards warmed up, Android amigos.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
