Clash of Kings: The West is designed with Western gamers in mind

You might already be familiar with Clash of Kings, the real-time strategy game from Chinese company Elex Tech. It tasks you with building a city, creating an army, forging alliances and fighting for control of an empire – all that good stuff.

Clash of Kings: The West is a tweaked version of the MMO designed to rebalance the gameplay to appeal to a Western audience. You’ll probably notice more players from Europe and the US, for a start.

There are number of exclusive events including West Go, which gives you the chance to catch a dragon and send it out to defeat your enemies, and Viking Invasion, which (surprise, surprise) involves repelling a Viking invasion and winning yourself a chest full of gold in the process. There’s also an upcoming Explorer’s Guild feature, allowing you to venture through dungeons in pursuit of hidden treasure.

This time round, there’s a focus on reducing the influence of in-game purchases over whether players win or lose in battle, so success is more about your strategic nous, and less about cold hard cash.

There’s also a safety net to get you back up on your feet. If your castle is destroyed, the King – with all the royal humility he can muster – will help you out with re-enforcements. You’ll also get a boost of resources if your defense and power level really hit the rocks - so you won’t end up at rock bottom.

Nobody likes a cheat – so in Clash of Kings: The West, Elex Tech has taken a stricter approach to preventing cheaters spoiling the fun for the rest of us. You can also help out by using the new in-game mailbox to report any hacking going on.
