Wikipad team finally reveals specs for its upcoming Android gaming tablet

During an interview with VentureBeat's GamesBeat team, the company behind the upcoming tablet the Wikipad finally revealed the specs for its Android-powered gaming device.

The tablet, which was first announced at CES back in January, has undergone some changes since we last saw it - particularly in the display department.

For starters, the purported 8-inch glasses-free 3D screen has been replaced with a regular 10.1-inch 1280x800 panel, though the Wikipad team did state to GamesBeat that future models may ship with a 3D display.

Under the hood, the tablet will be powered by a 1.4GHz Tegra 3 quad-core processor. It will also come equipped with 1GB of DDR2 RAM, and it will run the latest version of Android, Jelly Bean.

Wikipad Inc. president of sales Fraser Townley confirmed that the Wikipad will ship with at least 16GB of internal storage - a figure which may increase before the tablet hits the market.

Clear skies

There was no further news on Wikipad's partnership with cloud gaming specialist Gaikai, mind. This collaboration may be under threat given that Sony purchased the OnLive-esque service a few weeks ago and no doubt has plans on incorporating Gaikai into the PlayStation brand relatively soon.

However, the full-featured detachable gaming dock - which boasts dual-analogue sticks and a bevy of face buttons - will ship with every Wikipad.

The Wikipad should be on store shelves later this year.
