CES 2015: The W 3D is an Android gaming smartphone with physical controls and glasses-free 3D
Not unlike the 3DS
Chinese company Snail Games has been showing off its new Android smartphones, the W and the W 3D, at CES in Las Vegas this week.
What's unusual about the W and W 3D is that they're geared specifically for gaming. So, really, they're more like a handheld gaming console than a smartphone.
As such, instead of a touchscreen they have physical controls in the form of two analogue sticks, four face buttons, and a d-pad.
The W 3D has the additional feature of glasses-free 3D that makes use of eye-tracking technology in the front-facing camera.
But, unlike the 3DS, there's no slider to adjust the 3D. However, developers will be able to add 3D settings to their games so that players can tweak it to their liking.
The W 3D also comes with 2.2 Ghz processor, a 1080i resolution, and 16GB of RAM.
Snail Games also has an Android gaming console called the OBox that it's been showing off. It has a 4k resolution and also has 3D capabilities.
On top of that, the OBox works with the W 3D to stream Android games to the big screen. And, when doing so, you can use a controller if you prefer rather than the smartphone.
